Toying with a magazine idea again. I should just do this already.
Blip Fest Game Boys photos by Dean Putney
Taking place this past weekend in New York, Blip Fest showcases some of the best beeps and bloops from chiptune artists across the globe. Dean got a few pictures of some of the performers’ main weapon of choice: modded Game Boys customized with ProSound and running Korg software, but unfortunately replacing the vintage green on green on green screens (most of these are backlit so the performers can actually see what they’re doing while on stage). Check out the entire set over at Dean’s flickr.

For many Chicagoans, like myself, it’s that time of the year in the windy city when it’s far from below zero temperatures, Santa isn’t here, asking if you were naughty or nice, and we finally get to take that much needed break from shoveling our cars out from 10 inches of dirty snow. (Side note: One year my Jeep sat covered, snowed in on the street, for a week in a half until it finally melted off. Lazy? Nope, more like: Don’t care to throw my back out just to drive 5mph to the 7-11 down the block).

I figure I can change my situation one week at a time
Last week was time management for school work. Mostly successful, but it brought the next problem to my attention. I live in a fucking rec center. Not really, but it might as well be. Having so many people around pulling me this way and that leaves me no room to take care of business at my own home. I need solitude to keep my head on straight, so this week is all about distancing myself. My home needs to be a place where I can recharge, get some quiet time, and work on things that I want to do and NEED to do, and not the hangout spot for all my friends. It’s going to be a long week of telling people to find something else to do, but at this point I’d rather argue with everyone than have my home invaded every damn day. This is my place, and its time to get things back to normal. This weeks goal is SPACE, combined with my scheduling from last week to help cultivate my clear focused mind.
